Bedminster is dramatically changing in the 21st century with new neighbourhoods and communities emerging across the area. Ahead of over 300 residents moving into the new Stafford Yard buildings on Stafford St and Little Paradise next year, a group of aspiring local historians has been looking back at the original community to set up home on the site. They’ve discovered a tale that starts amid a rural landscape and ends in destruction and decay in less than a century.
Now the First ResidentsBS3 group, made up of both young and not so young BS3 residents, is ready to share its research and findings in a special exhibition for both the wider community and arriving new residents. The initiative is part of Futures Past, a Gathering Voices project funded by the Heritage Fund. It’s been seeking out stories and characters from that original community in three time periods, to create an evocative and memorable record.
